Through broad participation of our neighbors,
the Denia Neighborhood will be a neighborhood
united together for pride and progress well into the
next century. A safe, healthy, pleasant and sustainable environment will be provided
where each neighbor can develop his or her potential. Our neighborhood will retain its
residential character and be committed to shaping its own future, developing
leadership in residents of all ages, and serving the interests, needs and
values of this and future generations. -- Denia Small Area Plan
History of the Denia Area Community Group
The Denia Area Community Group (DACG) was formed when four independent groups joined forces in 1994 to resist the rezoning of neighborhood land to commercial property. The Denia Area Community Group now concentrates on issues that improve our neighborhood and the general City of Denton environment. We publish and hand deliver a monthly newsletter to area residents, which is supported by Denton's Parks & Recreation Department. DACG meets at the Denia Recreation Center at 7:00 p.m. on the last Monday of every month, excluding December, or the next to the last Monday, when holidays conflict.

Denia Area Community Group
Denia Area residents, (myself included), were stunned to read in the December 10, 2002 edition of the Denton Record Chronicle that the University of North Texas had submitted a detailed Master Plan to the Board of Regents which would destroy the Eagle Point Golf Course and replace it with a 600 bed dorm and athletic center. Eventually a new stadium would be built to replace the current stadium at Fouts Field. The article also announced that a public meeting would be held for interested residents. Dr. Richard Rafes spent considerable time at the meeting describing the University's plan to a packed house, composed largely of Denia Area residents. A few University representatives were in attendance, including Chancellor Lee Jackson. Noticeably absent was Dr. Pohl. Eventually, Dr. Rafes allowed some of those present to speak and ask questions. Those in attendance from the Denia Area were universally dismayed by the plan, and were not reassured by any of Dr. Rafes's answers. Before the meeting adjourned, neighborhood members in the audience received a commitment from Dr. Rafes to meet with a committee of neighborhood representatives.
The reprint of information from the Denia Area News, the neighborhood newsletter, recounts events up to the monthly neighborhood meeting of the Denia Area Community Group, held January 26, 2003.
